Vanity
Selfishness
Stubborness
Control

I'm aware of such pride in my life. I'm humbled before God that he would chose a flawed vessel like me to display his glory. It's amazing to me that the God who created the ocean, the mountains and the sky held back his power to persuade us to believe. A quote I read recently stated," God made himself so normal that we would even have the opportunity to look right past him". That is power! To humble yourself in such a way that you would not act out of vanity, control and a need for a title. Often I'm like a peacock trying to draw people into a hypnotic gaze by the display of my "splendid feathers". Rebakah was a woman who covered herself up when she came upon Isaac. A woman who did not use any of her attributes to persuade this man into being drawn to her. She did not try and put herself into a position of promotion. I find myself constantly trying to work the angles instead of trusting God. Lord, help me to be a woman of humility

Wow, this is powerful. I too often grasp for status or to "be in view". Good reminder Layne.

Those are great examples to bring up when thinking about how we should be as women. I really like this post, it's a great reminder of what we can all do as women.

thanks.

What a peacock you are.

Seriously, this is great. I can really tell that God has been speaking to you about humility, and this definitely is a challenge to me. I like the word "meekness" when thinking about Jesus. Too often, the world thinks that humility means we deny or suppress the God-given wonderful traits we possess. Instead of receiving praise or thanksgiving, we put on false modesty and say things like "Oh, it's nothing." I think meekness is something much more descriptive of God's character as it's revealed in Jesus. "Being in very nature God, he did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant." He made himself nothing out of obedience to his Father. Another passage comes to mind when Jesus washed his disciples' feet: In John 13, it says that Jesus, knowing that God had put all things under his power, and knowing that he would return to the Father and that all things would be placed under him, washed their feet like a lowly servant. His service and humility were borne out of his understanding of who he was in relation to God the father.

Wonderful truths to be mined here. Thanks for your very honest reflections.

I think that humility is something that we dont really understand and have often misrepresented. But i guess what is really important is that we ask god for it, because then we are at least saying we dont know how to
