So, I log on to CNN.com to read about the updated news on the polygamist sect of FLDS in Texas. If you haven't already read up on it you should! We need to be praying for these people to be set free from deception. Back to the news, I go from reading this article on the FLDS compound where women are forced into marriage with older men and made to bare a million children to an article on $10,000 birthday parties for 3 year old children. AWWWWHHHH!! I'm so overwhelmed sometimes. Sometimes I forget who is in control of the universe and my messiah complex kicks in as I want to "fix" everything and bring it into it's proper order. I wonder what God thinks as he looks down upon America? I think one way in my finite mind, but He sees the beginning from the end. Part of me wants to leave this world, but mainly for selfish reasons; meaning that I would love to be with the Lord and be away from the "inconveniences" of this world. I to am an inconvenience to people at times, but God bestows His grace and love. Lord, teach me to be more like you in this world that is hurting and dying.

One summer in college I worked for Southwestern Company and went to Salt Lake City, Utah. OMG!! What a rude awakening that was! I mean, people were kind as I went door to door to sell educational books but those who were in polygamous relationships -- everyone in the neighborhood knew it and it was soo sad to see the depression, the darkness.
I was having a similar reaction to world affairs behind my door this morning for different reasons. One man who spoke at Rob Bell's church recently said that the problem with technology that allows you to peek in at all world crises, is that our brains weren't made to handle the full weight of human anguish and despair. He said that seeing so many problems can paralyze us to work for good in the important yet smaller ways around us. I think he has a point, because this morning, reading up on world drama, I felt...helpless.
Wow, that's a great point. It helps us remember the vantage point of Gd and that we are not able to comprehend such things in our minds.
It was fascinating, and sad, to hear about this sect and the crazy practices that occur there. I agree that we should definitely be in prayer, especially for these young girls who have been trapped in this lifestyle. Thanks for sharing.
I posted an article about the same thing on Friday on my blog. It's really disturbing!
I like and agree with Allie's response. Technology has its advantages and disadvantages. Although I do not want to be oblivious to what is going on in the world, there is a reality to too much information that we are bombarded with. I too can get overwhelemed with all that is wrong in the world to the point where I feel like there is nothing I can do to help, as though little things would be insignificant.
